Being ordinary

I confess. I get jealous. Jealous of those churches that seem to have a lot going on. Jealous of those churches with 3 digit attendance figures. Jealous of those pastors whose Facebook page or Twitter feed is filled with tales of revival and rejuvenation, or extraordinary happenings in their congregations. I want more...I want what they have.

So into my lap, or my Kindle's lap, comes Michael Horton's new book, Ordinary: sustainable faith in a radical, restless world. It speaks to a problem in the culture and the church today. The desire for novelty, the need to be extraordinary. This book is my next Lenten project so over the next few days, I will delve into what this book means, what it doesn't, and what it says to me about my own need for something better.
